Sessions I and IV:  The Actor’s Process
Drawing on all of the principles of our wildly successful camps for kids, The Theatre Lab’s new tween offerings take the work to the next level! Session I offers an in-depth look at the creative process, from developing confidence in the actor’s instrument (the body and voice), to understanding the principles of improvisation, to creating innovative, movement-based theatre pieces from Greek Theatre's most captivating plays. Session IV is a headlong rush into the excitement of performing Shakespeare's greatest works. Both sessions culminate in a final show for friends and family.

Session II/III (4 weeks):  Musical Theatre Camp for Kids
Once on This Island, Jr.
A fun-filled Musical Theatre Camp open to experienced singers as well as first-time performers.  The camp will culminate in a full production of Once on This Island, Jr, to be performed twice on our main stage: once for our younger campers and area camp groups, and once in a special evening performance for friends, family and the general public. This abridged version of the Tony award-winning play by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty is a highly original Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale The Little Mermaid. A true ensemble piece, there are many terrific roles for all voice types. As with all Theatre Lab camps, there will be training in improv, scene study and movement along with 101 Dalmatians rehearsal and performance.  Participants will even receive technical training as they learn to make their own costumes and scenery

Session V-A: Character and Improvisation
An intensive journey into creating original characters, this one week program encourages students to become keen observers of human behavior as they develop scenes and monologues through improvised discovery.

Session V-B: Performance Production
Focused on the development of an original work created by the student cast, this one week session incorporates techniques for developing both scripted and improvisational scenes and monologues and culminates in a public performance.

THE REVIEWS ARE IN!

"My son loved the camp. The acting, singing and dancing that was taught to my son exceeded my expectation and my son gave the camp five stars.  The most valuable aspect of the camp was that it instilled the belief that hard work leads to success.  It was hard for me to believe that the students put on such a wonderful production of Mulan in just four short weeks.”
—Parent, Summer Musiocal Theatre Camp for Tweens

"Thanks from our entire family for all the time and effort you have put into helping my daughter cultivate her gifts and talents for a successful future in the arts!"
—Parent, Summer Acting Camp for Tweens

“The thing I liked best about the camp was that the teachers have the guts to really make kids feel good about what they do.”
—Participant, Summer Acting Camp for Tweens

“My daughter had a wonderful time.  She really liked the camp, kids and instructors.  She was so nervous because she didn’t know anyone, but she made great friends and still keeps in touch with them.  Everyone was so nice and so professional and the best aspect was that she became more independent and more confident.”
