Whether you’re just getting your feet wet, a rising musical theatre star, or a seasoned acting pro, The Theatre Lab has an Early Fall class just right for you. Classes are taught by an all-pro faculty that includes many of Washington’s highly esteemed actors, directors, playwrights and cabaret artists. Open to adults, as well as mature teens age 15+, all classes are taught at The Theatre Lab, located in the heart of the theatre district, just steps from the Gallery Place Metro. For complete course descriptions, as well as bios for the instructors who teach them, please click the links below. Would you like to perform in musical theatre? If so, you’ll want to check out Cabaret, for advanced training, and Solo Performance, for fundamental solo singing skills. Both classes are led by Judy Simmons. Interested in the big screen or TV work? You have two great options: Getting Started in TV and Film with Brenna McDonough, which focuses on how the business works and how to break into it, and On-Camera Scene Study I with Michael Gabel, which has an emphasis on developing the acting skills required for camera work. Regardless of whether you are focused on stage or film, Beginning Scene Study, taught by Jessica Burgess, and The Drama Workshop, led by Buzz Mauro, are the foundation courses we recommend for new acting students and those returning to acting after a break. We’re offering three scene study courses in the Early Fall session: the unique and fascinating Intensive Character Development with David Emerson Toney; Mining the Text, taught by Washington favorite Rick Foucheux; and The Great Shakespearean Roles with the ever-popular George Grant. If you need to sharpen your auditioning skills, Michael Russotto is teaching Auditioning, an intensive course that will help you prepare for a winning audition. And almost any actor would benefit from The Theatre Lab’s newest course, Creating a One-Person Show. Playwright Renee Calarco and director Dorothy Neumann will take you through the entire process of creating a one-person show, up to and including your own public performance.
